We hired BDC to do a major home renovation (kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, main and second floor) in the second half of 2024. We worked with an architect on the designs (JWA in Oakville) and met with Mike to discuss what was possible, cost effective and came up with a finalized design that fit our budget and hit the key improvements we were looking for. Mike's patience and thoroughness and reviewing previous work they had done/were doing convinced us they were the right contractor for us.
We had never done a renovation of this scale before and if you haven't been through, it's quite daunting and somewhat scary. BDC was there every step of the way to put together a timeline of events and keep us in continual communication as there are a lot of decisions to make (they use a software with pictures and timeline so you can see the progress as it goes along).
The construction team and contractors were all professional and courteous to our neighbors as a large reno can cause quite a disruption on the street, but they handled everything very professionally.
The job was done as much on time as it possibly could have been (unknowns always pop up in these type of jobs), and after about 4 months we were back in our house.
Moe, Luke, Grant and their support staff were amazing to work with.
A big thanks to all the folks at BDC and their contractors/suppliers that helped us through this significant renovation project for us. We hired the BDC team to remodel our kitchen, main floor bathroom, and foyer.

We reached out to several contractors at the beginning of the process and Mike was by far the most willing to work with us based on the goals we communicated to him.

The remodeling work included but was not limited to refinishing of the existing cabinets, removal and installation of new tile as well as backsplash, new plumbing, undermount lighting, and the addition of new cabinetry above the fridge.

Throughout the process, Moe at BDC was highly communicative regarding the schedule and next steps. Others deserving of a shoutout included Adam who was always a pleasure to speak with, as well as Bryan who completed the final touchups at the end.

Below you will find some before/after photos and suffice to say that we are quite happy with the result. As with any project we had some relatively minor hiccups along the way, however the issues were always addressed. One last thing we will say about BDC is that they do not try to walk away from the job until you communicate your complete satisfaction to them, which we find to be extremely rare in the contractor world.

I just had my kitchen redone by Mike, Grant, and their awesome team, and I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out! Right from the start, Kevin and Moe were always there when I had questions or needed guidance, and Brian absolutely nailed the finishing touches at the end. They were all so professional, patient, and friendly throughout the whole process.

The entire renovation, from design and picking out materials to the demolition and installation, went so smoothly. I was really impressed with how they took the time to explain all the options available locally, which helped me stay within my budget but still get the look I wanted. They really listened to my ideas and concerns, even though my English isn’t perfect. This is often the biggest challenge when hiring a local team for immigrants, but they made the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable.

If I have another renovation project, I’ll definitely be calling them again!

We hired Mike and his BDC team after interviewing and receiving quotes from 4 reputable contractors. We were renovating our entire new-to-us home; all 3 floors including 4 bathrooms, kitchen, 4+1 bedrooms, basement, office, living, dining, laundry, mud and family rooms. Our renovation included removal of 2 structural walls, one being an exterior brick wall to add in a massive 16’ sliding door to the back of our house/kitchen overlooking the yard and the other to open up our kitchen and dining room; that one required a 1000 lb/25’ metal beam that was no joke but completely transformed our kitchen space.

BDC repeatedly surprised us - in a good way - they started AND finished ON TIME! Stayed ON BUDGET and were clean, punctual, flexible, helpful and communicative along the way. Our project took 5 months - we didn’t live in the home for most of that time as we were able to stay in our old house until the final month; we did visit and meet with the team daily though.

This is our second full house renovation and while we chose not to use the first contractor again we would definitely use BDC again if need be and will confidently recommend them for other large scale projects.

We genuinely trusted the crews to come and go as needed and to carry out quality and safe work. They handled all the permitting and inspections and used a scheduling and budget software that kept them on track and us in the know. We had a few surprises but nothing massive and they provided us a few options to manage the issues to keep us on time, on vision, and on budget. Mike and his team had suggestions for places we could buy finishes like flooring, tile, faucets, lighting etc but were happy to work with whichever suppliers we chose.

We never met a BDC employee or tradesperson we didn’t like but some honourable mentions go to: Bryan (you were competent and reliable, kind and quiet and while we enjoyed your time in our home it is our dog, Willow, who will truly miss you), Moe (thank you for keeping me in the loop with… well, everything… and being straightforward about the budget), Adam (thanks for being you and allowing me to feel I could be ‘me’; I always felt I could trust your aesthetic taste and experienced opinion when we had to choose between a few options; you felt real and honest and easy to work with), Grant (co-owner, thank you for being meticulous with the final deficiency list; it gave us added assurance in your attention to detail and quality craftsmanship), Reed (you showed up every time with a giant bubble of happiness around you and instantly improved our day. You worked hard and made an impression), Amber (thanks for your excitement and reassurance as we made some bold decisions for our sexy office), of course, Mike (for making our dream home your dream job… your vision and excitement are contagious).

We took this project on after years of thought, consideration and research. We knew what we wanted for our dream home and lifestyle and weren’t willing to compromise on much - we told you our plan and you and your team helped us figure out how to make it happen within the confines of our budget, timeline, and existing house structure. Thanks to you all. We’re happy here and still pinch ourselves daily.

The entire Building Dreams team was a pleasure to work with, from start to finish.

We renovated our entire main floor and moved the kitchen from one side of the house to the other, removing a wall and creating an open-concept dream layout.

Mike Valchuk was extremely helpful not only in the initial design, but throughout the renovation from end-to-end. We entrusted him with the keys to our home while we travelled for 3 weeks, and came home to an amazing transformation. His level of communication was outstanding while we picked floor colours remotely through video chat, and he was quick to always answer any questions we had in a timely manner.

Upon returning from our vacation, there were only a few tasks left to finish the entire project. Mitch was an absolute pleasure to have in our home as he finished off these odds and ends. Great communication, open to any and all suggestions that we had, and overall made the final stages of the project a great success.

The quality of workmanship was flawless, the level of details used in some of the trim work, cabinetry and kitchen is just incredible, and we could not be happier with the result.

I also want to mention the painter that Building Dreams used, Igor from Custom Touch Painting. His skill level was impeccable, and we have already used him to help finish off our nursery for our first child that we are expecting in April.

We had 18 people here for Thanksgiving dinner (pictures attached) and everyone was blown away by the transformation.

In summary, we couldn’t have asked for a better contractor and team to work with as we completed the largest investment we will ever make in our home. Thank you Mike, Mitch and the entire Building Dreams team. You guys are awesome!!
