We just wrapped up building our new family home with Dixie Construction, and honestly, we’re still pinching ourselves! George Vulevich, the owner, is one of those genuinely good, salt-of-the-earth guys who you instantly trust, and his sister Meredith keeps the financial side transparent and humming like clockwork. Between the two of them and our project manager Fen—who deserves a gold medal for patience—we always felt like we were in great hands.This was no simple project. We took an old center hall cottage, gutted it, and added on an entirely new section to the back of the house, as well as a second floor. Despite the complexity, George, Fen, and the whole team made it feel manageable. They were always easy to reach over the phone (a rarity these days!) and never made us feel like a bother when we had a million questions, which we often did!The subs were fantastic across the board, but the in-house carpenters deserve a special shoutout—they’re talented, hardworking, and just plain fun to have around (I'm talking to you, Phil!). There were, of course, a few bumps along the way (there always are with a big build), but George and Fen were quick with smart, creative solutions every time.In the end, the house turned out even better than we ever could have imagined. We had an exceptional experience with Dixie Construction for the renovation of our historic New Orleans home. This was our first major home renovation, and the entire team at Dixie was a pleasure to work with from the initial consultation through the final reveal. The home was in need of extensive renovations and we had an initial walk-through and meeting with George to go over the scope of work, complexity of the project, cost and timeline.George’s positive attitude and approach to customer service and his willingness to address all concerns and needs far exceeded our expectations. He developed a solid plan and timeline and his team got to work immediately on the renovation. Every inch of space was carefully thought out and each phase of the project was discussed thoroughly in order to create exactly what we wanted in every room of our home.We were astonished by Dixie’s craftmanship throughout the entire process. The technical skills that each of their subcontractors exhibited was truly remarkable and it is obvious that they were each chosen for their expertise. I felt as though each subcontractor was superior in their craft, and we had them all under one roof! This made the entire renovation run seamlessly and provided unsurpassed quality and beautiful finishes throughout our home. George was on-site every day and maintained effective and constant communication during the project by answering questions, providing feedback and giving comprehensive updates on the renovation as the work progressed. Our project started with a very old New Orleans home in need of extensive renovations. We ended up demoing the majority of the house and only keeping what was required by the HDLC, and doing a large addition to the home - so both renovation work and new build work! Working with George and the entire team at Dixie (plus all of the subcontractors) made the entire project feel very smooth. George is a problem solver and whenever issues came up, they were presented to us with solutions, everyone was efficient and we felt good about the progress we were making throughout the entire project. One area that was pretty unique to our project was that we were using pine that my husband had salvaged and personally milled. They handled his hardwoods and the complications that they presented exceptionally well and were excited to incorporate them. George and his team worked well with our architect, they are already working together on future projects! They were flexible with our changes and with my procrastination with decision making, I never felt rushed and they worked around me to keep the project moving. Throughout the entire project, I really felt like they had our best interest at heart. If anything seemed off, they reviewed it with us before doing anything and made many suggestions that improved the overall project. In addition to the smooth work process, the Dixie team and the subcontractors really had a nice work environment at the house and I trusted everyone that was there throughout the entire project. Plus it was a nice bonus to follow along with updates from our house! We love the house and couldn't be happier here, and we are so appreciative that the building process went so well, thanks Dixie!
We worked with Dixie Construction on a 100+ year old home renovation. It was a big undertaking - the house was gutted and a new foundation added. We moved in just over a month ago and are so pleased with the outcome! I am impressed with the quality of work that George's team provided. They were accommodating with our requests and had great attention to detail. I'm especially happy with the tile work in our bathrooms!
