For context, we are writing this review having completed a total remodel / renovation project of our 1909 Craftsman home in Southeast Portland, completed in 2015. The project was a complete rebuild of the interior with dormers and stairs added as part of the remodel.On completion, the outside of the house remains a classic Craftsman house. On the inside, walls have been moved, and new electrical, plumbing and foundation systems added, all supportive of a transformation with a contemporary interior.The bottom line is that our experience with Craftsman Design met and exceeded our expectations in all of the ways that matter in a remodeling process. Specifically:• Core to this project was the management expertise of the senior design team, the project manager and lead carpenter who coordinated the subs. Well done and it worked. Their process added that critical factor you want in a partner - they brought up what we had not thought about. We benefitted and continue to benefit from their expertise on a daily basis.• Like all projects of this nature, there were hiccups and challenges. In our instance, the project ran longer than anticipated as a result of unexpected findings in the demo and change orders we added. This also contributed to a cost increase of about 5%. That said, the end result was that the house came in at the standard that both they and we expected.• We have been living in this house for 10 years. The house is long past “newly renovated”. We continue to appreciate the quality of the work and have had only minor handyman issues. The house is solid and a pleasure to live in.• We found everyone on the Craftsman team to be especially generous in their willingness to clarify and explain any and all questions we brought to them. It was a great partnership.
We had a wonderful experience and plan to work with them again when we are ready to update our new home. We miss the beautiful kitchen they built for our family.
