Grindstone is amazing - from the initial consult to the final signoff, we were extremely happy with the service and quality of work. Even better, they're nice people to work and chat with.We wanted our cantilever in our living room to be converted into a centerpiece of the room and open area, including a fireplace, shelves, some storage, etc. We didn't really know what we wanted it to look like, or what the specifics would be. Through various stages we went from sketches to mockups, iterated, changed, and got help with picking colors, tile patterns, etc. Every single detail was considered, including cable routing for audio equipment, power, heat dissipation, etc. Very thorough.They also used an online software tool which housed all the documents, plans, daily updates, pictures, etc., and we used it to communicate. It was sometimes clunky (messages vs chat? confusing), but it was great to have everything in one place / on an app and website.Unfortunately, part way through the reno there was a fairly major mistake. Grindstone immediately owned up, and spent considerable time working through options for mitigating the issue, giving us time and a range of solutions. Of course, they didn't charge a penny extra despite all the work.The only thing we think could have been improved is perhaps more visionary ideas from the beginning about layouts and how the space could be used. But, we ended up with a great solution in the end anyway.Thanks to the whole team, especially William, Tyler, Alicia, Doug, Dylan, and Harrison, and all the supporting trades for all the work!
We are so happy with our renovation that was completed by Grindstone. Our home looks amazing! We purchased a new home and decided to do the renovations right away. Grindstone met with us and shared realistic timelines, budget and thoroughly went through different options and the costs. We felt that they understood our vision, but also gave great advice on where we could reduce costs, while also explaining where money should be spent in certain areas. We did a full kitchen renovation, full primary bathroom renovation, updated 2 bathrooms, updated the fireplace, updated the staircase railings, put new flooring throughout the whole home, and moved a laundry room to the basement to create a back entry mudroom. It was a lot of work and every employee was positive, thoughtful, cleaned up after themselves and did incredible work. We're so pleased with our new home and keep chatting about all of the changes and how happy we are with it all. We appreciated the app that allows for communication and updates on the job site and also the check ins to see how we were doing with the project. We used our own designer (Stephanie Bockstael Design) and the Grindstone team were excellent with her design, drawings and it was a great partnership. We've recommended them to friends, family and business associates and have them coming back for a small project in the garage.
